The meeting aimed to evaluate the severe operational hardships, inventory perishability, and financial distress confronting retail merchants and small commercial enterprises during prolonged pandemic lockdown restrictions. Stalin listened attentively to grievances presented by trade representatives, who reported accumulating store rental debts, utility bill burdens, and a complete cessation of commercial cash flows.

Stalin emphasized that small retail traders constitute the indispensable operational backbone of Tamil Nadu's daily economic supply chain, linking farmers, producers, and neighborhood consumers. Prolonged neglect and a lack of tailored administrative support threaten widespread shop closures, leading to irreversible loss of livelihood for millions of retail workers. He criticized the state government for failing to formulate a comprehensive fiscal revival package or engage meaningfully with trade representatives.

Stalin urged the state administration to provide immediate property tax waivers, suspend commercial electricity fixed charges, and establish low-interest working capital credit lines for struggling merchants. He affirmed that the DMK will persistently champion the rightful demands of the trading community. Stalin stressed that reviving local commerce is fundamental to restoring the state's broader economic health.
