DMK president M.K. Stalin characterized the statewide demonstration staged by the DMK and alliance partners as a decisive warning to the AIADMK administration, condemning its hasty reopening of state-run liquor retail outlets amid escalating coronavirus infections. Stalin noted that while the state government displayed complete administrative inertia in formulating epidemic containment plans, securing fiscal transfers from the Union government, and providing necessary relief kits to impoverished households, it exhibited reckless enthusiasm solely in restarting liquor commercial sales.
Stalin emphasized that pushing liquor distribution during a severe health crisis directly endangers public health, dismantles social distancing discipline, and inflicts severe economic harm on struggling families already battered by the lockdown. Rather than deploying state resources to feed destitute families and procure essential testing supplies, the ruling dispensation opted to generate excise revenues at the expense of community safety.
Stalin asserted that the coordinated black-badge protest served to awaken an indifferent administration to public anger. He demanded that the state government reverse its misguided liquor sales policy, prioritize aggressive contact tracing, and disburse comprehensive direct income assistance to sustain working families throughout the pandemic lockdown. Stalin reaffirmed the DMK's steadfast commitment to holding authorities accountable for citizens' welfare.
