DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the Union government's unilateral attempt to cancel the allocated Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme funds for the financial year 2019-20. Stalin pointed out that while the central government had already suspended MPLADS allocations for two future years under the pretext of pandemic funding, retroactively seizing funds already sanctioned for the previous fiscal year is an unconstitutional and anti-democratic measure.

Stalin questioned whether the Union administration issued this arbitrary circular with the malicious intention of preventing opposition Members of Parliament from executing vital local development and emergency healthcare works in their respective constituencies. Depriving elected parliamentarians of designated development resources directly hurts grassroots communities who rely on these funds for essential hospital equipment, drinking water infrastructure, and civic amenities during emergencies.

Stalin demanded that the central government immediately withdraw the retroactively punitive circular and release all sanctioned 2019-20 development funds without delay. He stressed that weakening parliamentary institutions and penalizing constituencies under the guise of emergency centralization violates constitutional federalism and betrays the democratic trust reposed in elected representatives across democratic India today.
