Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin held the AIADMK administration squarely responsible for the catastrophic coronavirus outbreak originating from the Koyambedu wholesale market, which ignited massive viral clusters across multiple northern and central districts of Tamil Nadu. Stalin emphasized that imposing sudden, ill-planned lockdowns without establishing decentralized trading sites, sanitation barriers, or regulated pedestrian movement directly caused massive overcrowding and rapid viral contagion among traders and purchasers.

Stalin strongly condemned Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for attempting to evade governmental accountability by blaming ordinary vendors, shoppers, and specific localities for the administrative failure of his own cabinet. Scapegoating vulnerable workers who were merely trying to earn daily bread under hazardous conditions reflects profound governance failure and moral cowardice on the part of the ruling establishment in the state.

Stalin urged the state government to immediately halt its divisive blame game and take decisive action to contain localized spread. He reiterated the DMK's steadfast demand for distributing emergency cash relief of five thousand rupees to every ration-card-holding family, ensuring that impoverished households can sustain themselves safely without being pushed into economic starvation during the ongoing shutdown.
