DMK president M.K. Stalin condemned the AIADMK administration over brazen financial corruption in municipal procurement during the coronavirus health crisis, supporting large-scale protests organized by DMK cadres in Coimbatore. Stalin criticized Municipal Administration Minister S.P. Velumani for mismanaging public funds and exploiting pandemic emergency purchases, citing illicit kickbacks pocketed through inflated tenders for bleaching powder, disinfectant liquids, and basic sanitization supplies.
Stalin stated that while healthcare staff and ordinary citizens struggled without protective gear, corrupt political brokers treated the lethal pandemic as an opportunity for illicit self-enrichment. The ruling administration fostered an environment where ministers operated with brazen arrogance, remitting kickbacks upward to protect their cabinet positions instead of safeguarding municipal cleanliness and public safety.
Stalin commended DMK functionaries for staging resolute public demonstrations despite lockdown restrictions to expose administrative plunder. He reiterated that the DMK will persistently hold corrupt public officials accountable before the courts and the electorate. Stalin affirmed that public funds earmarked for disease containment belong to the people and vowed that every single rupee stolen during the public health emergency would be investigated thoroughly by future commissions.
