DMK president M.K. Stalin urged both the Union and Tamil Nadu governments to immediately abandon the controversial Salem-Chennai eight-lane greenfield expressway project. Stalin criticized the ruling authorities for arguing before the Supreme Court that the corridor possesses supreme national importance, pointing out that such legal maneuvering serves narrow commercial interests while ignoring widespread resistance from farming communities whose fertile agricultural holdings face catastrophic destruction.
Stalin emphasized that pushing forward an environmentally destructive highway across fertile agrarian belts fractures the economic backbone of thousands of hardworking cultivating families. Rather than listening to distressed rural cultivators, ruling politicians have persistently prioritized contractor lobbies, alienating local communities and damaging ecologically fragile forest pockets across several western districts of Tamil Nadu. Imposing coercive infrastructure projects that dispossess rural producers violates principles of inclusive economic planning and sustainable regional development across the state.
Stalin demanded that the state administration withdraw its legal appeals, scrap coercive land acquisition procedures, and explore constructive transport modernization alternatives. He affirmed that infrastructure initiatives must genuinely serve public convenience rather than enriching corporate cartels at the expense of agricultural security.
