DMK president M.K. Stalin welcomed the Tamil Nadu government's decision to cancel the tenth standard Secondary School Leaving Certificate public examinations and promote all registered students. Stalin pointed out that had Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami accepted the constructive recommendations of opposition parties, teachers, and medical experts earlier, weeks of intense mental agony, panic, and uncertainty for nine lakh students and their parents could have been averted.
Stalin noted that the state government needlessly persisted with stubborn scheduling announcements despite surging contagion numbers and explicit warnings from the Madras High Court regarding student safety. By capitulating only after public outcry, legal scrutiny, and planned opposition protests reached a crescendo, the administration revealed its persistent inability to evaluate public health risks independently. Stalin emphasized that safeguarding the lives and physical well-being of young students must always outweigh rigid bureaucratic calendars.
Stalin urged the state administration to avoid further educational distractions and direct its complete administrative machinery toward pandemic management. He demanded that authorities focus on expanding diagnostic testing, ensuring adequate hospital beds, providing food relief, and implementing scientific containment protocols across Chennai and adjoining districts immediately.
