DMK president M.K. Stalin called upon Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to take direct personal charge of the Health and Family Welfare Department to ensure administrative coherence during the pandemic. Stalin remarked that following the abrupt transfer of the state health secretary amid surging infection rates, the Chief Minister should have also replaced Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar, who faced numerous allegations of mismanagement, corruption, and administrative incompetence.
Stalin pointed out that removing civil servants while shielding politically compromised ministers represents an evasive tactic that fails to address systemic deficiencies in pandemic governance. At a critical juncture when public health management demands flawless coordination, transparent procurement, and clinical excellence, retaining a tainted leadership at the helm of the health ministry cripples operational efficacy. Bureaucracy alone cannot function efficiently without credible, accountable political direction during an unprecedented public health disaster.
Stalin urged the Chief Minister to assume the health portfolio personally, eliminate corrupt practices in emergency medical procurements, and overhaul administrative decision-making. He emphasized that saving lives through robust disaster coordination must take priority over shielding partisan political colleagues from public scrutiny.
