Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin exposed flagrant corruption in the Greater Chennai Corporation's procurement of medical equipment during the coronavirus pandemic, revealing that municipal authorities purchased substandard thermal scanners from China at nine thousand one hundred and seventy-five rupees each. Stalin pointed out that high-quality scanners were readily manufactured and available within Tamil Nadu for merely two to five thousand rupees, yet authorities chose defective imported devices that consistently recorded erroneous hundred-degree temperatures.

Stalin detailed further instances of procurement fraud, noting that basic face masks costing fifteen rupees and disinfectants priced at two thousand five hundred rupees were purchased at exorbitant rates through rigged contracts. He condemned the ruling AIADMK administration for treating a catastrophic public health crisis as a lucrative opportunity for collection, commission, and corruption. Profiteering from emergency procurement while citizens scramble for hospital beds and protective gear represents moral bankruptcy within the municipal and municipal administration.

Stalin demanded a comprehensive judicial investigation into all pandemic-related purchases executed by the Chennai Corporation and state departments. He insisted on immediate recovery of embezzled public funds and criminal prosecution of corrupt officials.
