DMK president M.K. Stalin voiced serious concern over the rapid spread of coronavirus infections into rural districts, noting that village panchayat presidents and local body representatives from Cuddalore and Nagapattinam highlighted sharp transmission increases during consultations. Stalin stressed that while initial containment strategies focused predominantly on Chennai, the unchecked movement of people and inadequate localized testing have allowed the contagion to establish deep roots across peripheral towns and farming villages.

Stalin urged the state administration to abandon its centralized bureaucratic approach and actively engage elected local body leaders in pandemic containment operations. Grassroots representatives possess intimate knowledge of village demographics, migrant arrivals, vulnerable households, and primary healthcare constraints. By denying them operational authority and sanitation funding, the government crippled effective local containment while burdening understaffed primary health centers.

Stalin insisted that the Health Department immediately dispatch mobile testing units, establish localized quarantine facilities, and allocate dedicated financial resources to village panchayats. He stated that suppressing infection figures in rural districts will only exacerbate healthcare crises, demanding transparent reporting, decentralized medical management, and immediate protective gear for all grassroots sanitary workers across Tamil Nadu.
