DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound anguish over the death of autorickshaw driver Kumaresan in Veerakeralampudur, Tenkasi district, who succumbed to severe physical injuries sustained during police questioning. Stalin underscored that this incident marked the fourth custodial death in Tamil Nadu within a single week, exposing a terrifying pattern of unrestrained police violence under the AIADMK administration.
Stalin questioned Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on how the state government could permit law enforcement personnel to operate with total impunity, effectively abandoning the safety of ordinary citizens. He pointed out that turning police stations into torture chambers destroys public confidence in constitutional governance and endangers vulnerable workers striving to earn a livelihood during economic hardship. An administration that fails to restrain lawless behavior within its own police departments loses all moral authority to govern.
Stalin demanded a swift, impartial judicial investigation into Kumaresan's custodial death and stringent criminal action against every officer involved in the torture. He urged the state government to deliver substantial financial compensation to the bereaved family immediately and enact rigorous institutional safeguards to prevent police abuse across the state.
