DMK president M.K. Stalin directly challenged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami over his continued reluctance to arrest the police personnel accused of murdering Jayaraj and Bennix in Sathankulam custody. Stalin recalled that the Chief Minister had repeatedly claimed his government was waiting for judicial conclusions before initiating executive action. However, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court had explicitly pronounced that there were ample prima facie materials and eyewitness evidence to register murder charges against the involved police officers.
Stalin questioned what pretext the Chief Minister had left to justify the failure to immediately take the killer policemen into custody. He asserted that shielding perpetrators who inflicted sadistic torture upon defenseless citizens tarnishes the dignity of the state and exposes the government subservience to police lawlessness. Stalin pointed out that ordinary citizens accused of far lesser offenses are arrested within hours, whereas officers facing prima facie judicial murder indictments were shielded with administrative transfers.
Stalin demanded the immediate invocation of murder charges under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code and the urgent arrest of all culpable officers. He declared that justice cannot be delayed any further.
