DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound sorrow and heartfelt condolences following the tragic demise of Dr. Sukumar, a dedicated government medical officer serving at the Chengalpattu Government Hospital, who succumbed to coronavirus infection contracted while treating patients. Stalin stated that the untimely loss of a skilled, selfless medical professional on the front lines was deeply painful for the entire state, offering solemn sympathies to the bereaved family, colleagues, and the medical community.
Stalin criticized the AIADMK administration for its persistent negligence in providing certified personal protective equipment, adequate rest cycles, and safety infrastructure for healthcare workers battling the epidemic across state facilities. He warned that callous administrative treatment of doctors, nurses, and paramedical personnel would induce profound demoralization, fear, and distress among clinical professionals who risk their lives daily. Such administrative failure, he asserted, could trigger devastating breakdowns across the entire public healthcare system during a critical viral surge.
Stalin demanded that the Tamil Nadu government immediately implement stringent workplace safety protocols, provide adequate protective suits and N95 masks, and ensure comprehensive life insurance compensation for medical warriors. He insisted that the administration prevent any further frontline fatalities.
