DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the AIADMK administration, directly questioning Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam over the revocation of enhanced pension benefits for retired government doctors. Stalin criticized the state finance ministry for citing financial constraints to cancel hard-won pension increases for senior medical professionals, even as the government allocated hundreds of crores from the public exchequer for self-promotional advertisements and commercial procurement tenders.
Stalin highlighted the irony of penalizing dedicated healthcare personnel at a time when the entire medical fraternity was risking their lives on the front lines to combat the deadly coronavirus contagion. He emphasized that government doctors dedicate decades of selfless service to treating impoverished patients in state-run hospitals, often under challenging conditions and with limited resources. Denying retired doctors their legitimate statutory retirement benefits while witnessing their ongoing sacrifices represents an unconscionable betrayal of the healthcare community.
Stalin demanded that the state government immediately reverse its regressive order and disburse the promised enhanced pensions to retired doctors without delay. He affirmed that the DMK will stand resolutely with public healthcare workers, defending their professional dignity and financial security.
