DMK president M.K. Stalin called upon Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to utilize an upcoming Tamil Nadu cabinet meeting to approve comprehensive economic relief measures for citizens devastated by prolonged, unplanned pandemic lockdowns. Stalin pointed out that recurring, ill-conceived lockdown announcements had severely crippled the regional economy, causing extensive job losses, wiping out daily earnings, and pushing millions of low-income families into acute financial destitution.
Stalin urged the cabinet to immediately sanction direct cash assistance of five thousand rupees to every ration cardholder family to help them survive economic distress. He also demanded the complete waiver of agricultural crop loans and cooperative jewel loans taken by small farmers, substantial concessions on domestic electricity billing, and the cancellation of college semester examinations to alleviate academic anxiety among students. Stalin asserted that public treasury resources belong to the citizens, and that a compassionate government must deploy fiscal reserves directly to sustain vulnerable households during public disasters.
Stalin emphasized that the state executive must take bold, decisive welfare decisions rather than offering piecemeal measures. He warned that failing to deliver meaningful economic support would plunge the rural and urban working classes into prolonged poverty.
