DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly criticized the coordinated assault on the state cooperative credit structure by central and state authorities, warning that their regressive policy measures will destroy the founding ethos of the cooperative movement and devastate rural livelihoods. Stalin condemned the Union government legislative attempts to bring state cooperative societies under the regulatory control of the Reserve Bank of India, decrying it as a direct infringement upon state legislative powers and federal autonomy.
Simultaneously, Stalin denounced the AIADMK state administration for arbitrarily prohibiting cooperative credit societies and primary agricultural banks from disbursing essential gold jewel loans to smallholder farmers and low-income families. He pointed out that jewel loans from local cooperatives represent an indispensable financial lifeline for agricultural laborers, marginal cultivators, and small traders facing acute working capital shortages during pandemic distress. Forcing rural citizens into the clutches of private usurious moneylenders, he argued, reflects profound administrative callousness.
Stalin demanded that the state government immediately revoke the jewel loan ban and restore affordable rural credit operations. He affirmed that the DMK will resist all central encroachments on cooperative federalism and defend grassroots financial institutions across Tamil Nadu.
