DMK president M.K. Stalin initiated high-level political outreach to prominent national and regional leaders across India, rallying unified opposition support for Other Backward Classes reservations in All India Quota medical admissions. Reaching out to leaders including Sitaram Yechury, H.D. Deve Gowda, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, Mamata Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray, Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati, K. Chandrashekar Rao, Sharad Pawar, D. Raja, and Omar Abdullah, Stalin sought a coordinated national campaign.
The outreach followed the Madras High Court's historic ruling directing the Union government to constitute a committee to decide on implementing OBC quota in state-surrendered medical seats. Stalin emphasized that securing fifty percent reservation in surrendered medical seats is not merely a regional issue for Tamil Nadu, but a fundamental constitutional question impacting social justice across all states. For years, thousands of deserving backward class students nationwide have been deprived of legitimate medical admissions.
Calling for collective political mobilization, Stalin urged all democratic parties to demand that the Union government convene the mandated committee immediately and respect state reservation statutes. He affirmed that the DMK will continue spearheading nationwide unity to defend affirmative action and empower underprivileged youth through professional higher education.
