DMK president M.K. Stalin raised serious concerns regarding the complete lack of transparency in the selection process for the vice-chancellor of the historic University of Madras. Stalin questioned why an iron curtain of secrecy had been erected around the search committee's deliberations, pointing out that the committee convener and thirty applicant candidates hailed from northern states, raising legitimate public suspicions regarding ideological interference.
Stalin demanded full administrative disclosure regarding the criteria used to shortlist twelve final candidates for the interview stage. He asked how many qualified scholars from Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes, and Scheduled Tribes were considered, warning against covert attempts by right-wing forces to saffronize higher education institutions in Tamil Nadu. The state government's absolute silence on the issue, Stalin argued, suggests complicit surrender to external political directives at the expense of local academic talent.
Urging the state administration to abandon its secretive posture, Stalin insisted that university leadership appointments must be based on proven scholarship, transparent evaluation, and equitable social representation. He declared that the DMK will resist any maneuver designed to subvert institutional autonomy or undermine Tamil Nadu's progressive academic culture.
