Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin welcomed Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami's statement rejecting the three-language formula proposed in the National Education Policy 2020, but urged the state government to oppose the entire policy framework. Stalin emphasized that the dangers of the new national framework extend far beyond linguistic imposition, containing numerous regressive clauses that threaten to dismantle universal schooling access and reservation rights across Tamil Nadu.

Stalin noted that leaders of the DMK-led secular progressive alliance had jointly dispatched a comprehensive petition detailing the policy's structural defects to the Chief Minister. The policy introduces centralized entrance tests, early exit screenings, and commercialized vocational tracks that will inevitably force rural, backward, and first-generation learners out of formal academic institutions. He stressed that selective criticism of language alone would not shield students from broader systemic disenfranchisement engineered by central educational authorities.

Urging the Chief Minister to adopt an uncompromising stance, Stalin demanded an emergency state cabinet resolution officially rejecting the National Education Policy in its entirety. He affirmed that the DMK will mobilize educators, students, and citizens to protect Tamil Nadu's progressive educational heritage and state autonomy.
