DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded the immediate scrapping of the state's e-pass travel clearance system, characterizing it as a complete administrative failure that breeds extortion while causing distress for citizens. Stalin pointed out that the online permit mechanism lacks operational transparency, leading to arbitrary rejections even for urgent humanitarian needs like attending funerals, medical emergencies, or solemnizing family weddings.
Stalin observed that while ordinary citizens with genuine emergencies were denied movement permits, an illicit network of brokers and middlemen flourished by securing fraudulent approvals for hefty bribes. Instead of facilitating necessary public transit during pandemic relaxations, the bureaucratic apparatus created an artificial bottleneck that disrupted regional commerce, severed family ties, and victimized daily wage earners. He noted that neighboring states had already phased out restrictive road passes in line with national unlock directives.
Insisting that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami dismantle the corrupt framework without further delay, Stalin stated that public health enforcement must rely on medical monitoring rather than predatory clerical licenses. He reaffirmed that the DMK will persistently champion the free movement of citizens and hold the ruling administration accountable for administrative negligence.
