DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock and offered deep condolences following a massive landslide that struck tea estate settlements at Rajamala near Munnar, trapping over eighty plantation workers under debris. The catastrophic disaster occurred during torrential monsoon downpours, devastating temporary dwelling quarters inhabited by generations of Tamil migrant laborers whose ancestral ties remain deeply rooted in southern Tamil Nadu.
Stalin urged Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to mobilize specialized disaster response forces, heavy excavation machinery, and emergency medical personnel to locate trapped workers and provide critical treatment to survivors. He emphasized that both state governments must coordinate administrative mechanisms seamlessly, facilitating rapid transport, medical triage, and family communication across the border. Stalin also appealed to Kerala authorities to grant substantial financial compensation and housing rehabilitation to surviving dependents.
Calling on the Tamil Nadu administration to send emergency liaison teams to assist affected families, Stalin stated that humanitarian assistance must transcend interstate administrative boundaries. He affirmed that the DMK stands in resolute solidarity with the grief-stricken plantation families, pledging continuous organizational support and relief aid until all affected communities receive comprehensive assistance and rehabilitation.
