DMK president M.K. Stalin challenged Tamil Nadu Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar over the persistent concealment of doctor casualties resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. While the health department denied reports that forty-three physicians had succumbed to the virus in Tamil Nadu, the Indian Medical Association published nationwide documentation verifying that one hundred ninety-six doctors had died across the country. Stalin demanded that the state minister reveal the exact number of medical fatalities in Tamil Nadu.
Stalin warned that suppressing casualty figures neither slows viral transmission nor restores public trust in public health administration. He emphasized that concealing the deaths of dedicated doctors dishonors the memory of frontline healthcare workers who sacrificed their lives caring for infected citizens under hazardous conditions. Instead of engaging in public relations spin, the health department must acknowledge reality and address severe shortages of protective equipment, resting quarters, and emergency medications in state hospitals.
Demanding full data transparency, Stalin insisted that the state administration publish complete casualty registries and distribute fifty lakh rupees ex-gratia payments to bereaved families without delay. He affirmed that honoring medical martyrs requires honest governance, financial security for their dependents, and robust safety protocols for practicing healthcare professionals.
