DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound anguish over the devastating landslide at Pettimudi near Munnar in Kerala, which claimed twenty-nine lives and left over eighty tea plantation workers trapped under debris. Highlighting that the vast majority of affected workers hailed from Kayathar and surrounding rural villages in southern Tamil Nadu, Stalin demanded urgent coordinated action from both state governments to support the victims.
Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu government to establish emergency transit assistance, communication centers, and specialized medical convoys to help distressed family members travel to Munnar immediately. He called upon Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to deploy additional rescue personnel, expand search operations across buried settlements, and elevate the announced ex-gratia compensation to twenty-five lakh rupees for each bereaved household given their extreme financial deprivation.
Emphasizing that plantation workers endure harsh working conditions to sustain regional agriculture, Stalin stated that their families deserve humane solidarity and generous state assistance during this disaster. He assured that the DMK will extend material relief and legal support to the affected families, working continuously with authorities until every survivor is safely accounted for and rehabilitated.
