DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound heartbreak and conveyed sincere condolences following the tragic drowning of four young medical students from Tamil Nadu in the Volga river in Russia. The deceased students were pursuing undergraduate medical degrees at Volgograd State Medical University when the unfortunate accident occurred, causing shock and immense grief among their families and communities across the state.
Stalin appealed directly to Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to coordinate with the Indian Embassy in Moscow and Russian regional authorities to expedite search, rescue, and consular formalities. He urged the Union Ministry to extend immediate financial, logistical, and diplomatic assistance to the bereaved parents, ensuring that the mortal remains of the deceased youths are repatriated to their native towns in Tamil Nadu without procedural delays.
Emphasizing the emotional trauma endured by families whose children traveled thousands of miles abroad to fulfill professional dreams, Stalin called for responsive diplomatic support during this tragedy. He affirmed that the DMK will maintain continuous liaison with central officials to ensure that all necessary administrative care, documentation assistance, and family support are provided promptly throughout this difficult ordeal.
