Spoke to Hon @CMOKerala and requested him to provide assistance to our Tamil brothers and sisters affected by #IdukkiLandslides.
I also urged him to increase the compensation provided to their families.
DMK president M.K. Stalin held a telephone conversation with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to discuss emergency humanitarian relief and rehabilitation for plantation workers affected by the catastrophic landslide at Pettimudi in Idukki district. Stalin conveyed deep grief over the loss of dozens of innocent lives, pointing out that the vast majority of deceased and missing tea estate laborers were native Tamils who had migrated to the hill region generations ago.
Stalin urged Chief Minister Vijayan to accelerate ongoing search and rescue operations, ensure specialized emergency medical care for survivors, and deploy advanced machinery to locate trapped individuals. Highlighting the extreme economic vulnerability of impoverished tea estate workers whose residential quarters were completely destroyed, Stalin appealed for a substantial increase in ex-gratia financial compensation granted to the bereaved families.
Expressing enduring fraternal solidarity with the people of Kerala, Stalin assured full cooperation from the DMK and the people of Tamil Nadu during this hour of calamity. He emphasized that neighboring states must coordinate seamlessly to reconstruct destroyed settlements, rehabilitate bereaved children, and provide permanent employment avenues to surviving household members.
