DMK president M.K. Stalin welcomed the landmark judgment of the Supreme Court affirming that daughters possess equal coparcenary rights in ancestral property from birth under Hindu personal law. Stalin highlighted that this transformative national legal ruling represents the ultimate judicial vindication of the Dravidian movement's century-long struggle for gender parity. The demand for equal property rights for women was first passed as a revolutionary resolution by Periyar E.V. Ramasamy at the historic 1929 Chengalpattu Self-Respect Conference.
Sixty years after Periyar's clarion call, former Chief Minister Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi transformed that radical social vision into statutory law by enacting the Tamil Nadu Hindu Succession Amendment Act in 1989. Stalin remarked that Kalaignar's legislative foresight served as an inspiring beacon for all of India, prompting national legal recognition three decades later. Tamil Nadu established the foundational jurisprudence proving that economic equality is indispensable for female autonomy and social dignity.
Calling upon the Union BJP government to implement the judicial decree faithfully without succumbing to conservative prejudices, Stalin affirmed that the DMK will champion equal rights for women across property, workplace, and political spheres everywhere.
