Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin raised urgent questions demanding that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami clarify the current legal status of the statutory bills passed unanimously by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly seeking permanent exemption from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. Stalin questioned why the state government remained conspicuously silent on demanding exam postponement during the raging Covid-19 pandemic while other non-BJP ruled states were actively moving the Supreme Court.

Stalin also strongly questioned the prolonged administrative delay in implementing the proposed reservation quota for government school students in undergraduate medical admissions. He criticized the state administration for demonstrating aggressive enthusiasm and urgency only when awarding lucrative commercial government tenders, while displaying total apathy and bureaucratic delay when dealing with vital matters concerning the welfare and educational futures of underprivileged students. Rural youth, Stalin observed, were being denied their legitimate medical aspirations due to state inaction.

Calling upon the Chief Minister to show genuine political will, Stalin demanded immediate executive notification of the government school student medical quota. He affirmed that the DMK will never abandon its fight to abolish NEET permanently for Tamil Nadu.
