DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded immediate public answers regarding what high-level political power is preventing the Central Bureau of Investigation from prosecuting Health Minister C. Vijayabaskar and former Director General of Police T.K. Rajendran in the multi-crore Gutkha bribery scandal. Stalin questioned why the premier central investigative agency was acting as a passive spectator while crucial legal sanction and prosecution procedures were deliberately delayed, obstructed, and compromised by ruling authorities.

Stalin pointed out that official documentary evidence and seized ledger accounts had clearly recorded massive illicit monthly payoffs delivered to high-ranking politicians and senior police commanders in exchange for facilitating the illegal manufacture and statewide distribution of banned tobacco products. He charged that the continuous obstruction of criminal proceedings reveals a murky, covert political understanding between the AIADMK state government and the BJP-led Union government, trading legal immunity for partisan political subservience. Stalin asserted that shielding corrupt officials shatters institutional credibility.
