Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin severely criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for stating that the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test could be conducted after the coronavirus pandemic subsides, characterizing the Chief Minister's statement as an outright betrayal of Tamil Nadu's students. Stalin emphasized that after the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly unanimously passed statutory legislative bills seeking complete exemption from NEET, proposing a mere postponement instead of permanent abolition reflects utter duplicity.

Stalin maintained that the core demand of the people and educational stakeholders of Tamil Nadu is not a temporary scheduling delay, but a permanent, absolute exemption from the centralized medical entrance test. He pointed out that NEET systematically discriminates against rural and government school students who lack access to exorbitant commercial private coaching institutes, destroying the state's inclusive medical education system. While the ruling AIADMK administration capitulated timidly before the Union government, the DMK remains uncompromising in protecting student welfare.

Declaring that the DMK will never permit the erosion of state educational autonomy, Stalin urged the Chief Minister to pursue decisive legal and constitutional remedies rather than compromising Tamil Nadu's interests. He affirmed that the opposition will continue fighting for permanent exemption.
