DMK president M.K. Stalin urged the Tamil Nadu government to issue a formal directive to corporate recruiters and industrial enterprises advising them not to cancel or retract job offers extended to college students through campus placement drives. Stalin noted that while the state government hesitated to convene the State Disaster Management Authority to take a decisive policy stance on final-year collegiate examinations akin to Maharashtra, it must at least actively safeguard graduating students' employment prospects.
Stalin highlighted that hundreds of thousands of engineering, arts, and science graduates who secured lucrative campus placement offers before the coronavirus lockdown were facing extreme anxiety due to unconfirmed joining dates, hiring freezes, and unilateral offer revocations by corporations. Many students hail from rural and economically modest families that had incurred heavy educational debts anticipating stable graduate employment. He stressed that leaving young job seekers unprotected in an uncertain labor market causes severe demoralization among youth.
Insisting on proactive state leadership, Stalin called upon the Chief Minister and the higher education department to initiate formal discussions with industrial confederations and corporate employers. He demanded government guarantees that all campus placement commitments be honored responsibly.
