DMK president M.K. Stalin launched a severe critique against both the Union and state governments for unleashing what he termed an economic hunt on citizens struggling under the devastating fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic. Stalin observed that while ordinary livelihoods, informal businesses, and daily earnings had grounded to a complete standstill, authorities continued to levy compounding bank loan interest, repeatedly hike petrol and diesel tariffs, and increase highway toll booth charges across Tamil Nadu.
Stalin remarked that the AIADMK state administration had left vulnerable populations to suffer hunger and destitution without providing adequate direct cash transfers or substantial nutritional relief. Concurrently, the Union government acted ruthlessly by extracting heavy excise revenues and financial charges from citizens during their most vulnerable period. He argued that subjecting struggling households and transport operators to crushing financial burdens while denying structural relief demonstrates extreme governmental apathy toward the working masses.
Demanding an immediate rollback of inflated petroleum taxes, suspension of toll increases, and genuine interest waivers on bank loans, Stalin urged administrators to alleviate citizen hardship. He affirmed that governance must prioritize human survival over relentless fiscal extraction during unprecedented crises.
