DMK president M.K. Stalin urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to break his silence and immediately grant pass status to college students who could not afford to pay semester examination fees amidst the economic distress caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Stalin pointed out that the government's decision to exempt only fee-paid students from examinations while excluding impoverished non-paying students established an unfair and discriminatory academic divide, punishing students purely for household poverty.
Stalin explained that countless farming households, informal wage laborers, and working-class families had experienced severe livelihood collapse and income loss over months of public health lockdown. Under such precarious economic circumstances, expecting disadvantaged students to arrange examination fees was completely unreasonable and contrary to democratic welfare governance. He stressed that higher education policies during global crises must demonstrate basic human compassion and administrative flexibility rather than rigid fee recovery conditions.
Demanding prompt executive action under the banner of equality for non-paying students, Stalin called upon the state government to issue an inclusive directive encompassing all enrolled collegiate youth. He affirmed that the DMK will relentlessly champion equal educational rights for underprivileged students across Tamil Nadu.
