DMK president M.K. Stalin shared proceedings from an expert virtual conference convened by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam to examine the far-reaching ecological dangers embedded in the Union government's draft Environmental Impact Assessment notification 2020. The online discussion brought together environmental scientists, legal scholars, and social activists to analyze how the proposed rules weaken existing ecological regulations. Stalin asserted that dismantling environmental clearance requirements threatens fragile ecosystems, coastal communities, and agricultural lands across Tamil Nadu and the nation.

Stalin observed that the draft regulations systematically dilute public hearing provisions, granting post-facto clearances to industrial polluters and excluding citizens from decision-making on hazardous infrastructure projects. He argued that subordinating ecological conservation to unregulated industrial exploitation endangers biodiversity, exacerbates climate risks, and compromises water security for agrarian populations. The panel articulated comprehensive legal and scientific objections that highlighted the necessity of repealing the controversial environmental draft completely.
