Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed profound concern over findings published in the National Crime Records Bureau report, which revealed that crime in Tamil Nadu surged by 18.61 percent during the 2017-2018 period. The national statistical report officially categorized Chennai and Coimbatore among major cities reporting high homicide rates, shattering the state's traditional reputation for public safety. Stalin held Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami directly accountable for this alarming deterioration in law and order across urban centers.

Stalin asserted that the AIADMK administration had thoroughly politicized the state police machinery, binding officers' hands and preventing professional law enforcement against criminal networks. By misusing police resources for political surveillance and partisan vendettas while shielding criminal elements aligned with the ruling establishment, the government had effectively granted unchecked permits for lawlessness. Stalin pointed out that ordinary citizens, business owners, and vulnerable communities live under growing fear due to police inactivity.

Demanding an immediate overhaul of policing priorities, Stalin urged the administration to unshackle law enforcement officers from political interference. He declared that an incoming DMK government will restore professional autonomy to the police force, ending criminal impunity across Tamil Nadu.
