DMK president M.K. Stalin condemned the Union government after Goods and Services Tax assistant commissioner Balamurugan revealed that he was assigned official responsibilities in the department's Hindi implementation division despite not knowing the language. Stalin asserted that this arbitrary administrative decision exposes the Bharatiya Janata Party administration's systematic agenda to impose Hindi across central departments, undermining the linguistic diversity and federal character of the Indian republic.
Stalin questioned whether the Union government considers itself an administration for all of India or merely an authority catering exclusively to Hindi-speaking states. He noted that penalizing or marginalizing proficient non-Hindi speaking civil servants from non-Hindi states violates constitutional principles of equality and professional fairness. Such actions, Stalin argued, reflect deep disrespect toward regional languages and the dedicated public officials who speak them.
Reaffirming the DMK's historic commitment to linguistic equality, Stalin demanded an immediate halt to covert and overt language imposition in central government agencies. He declared that Tamil Nadu will steadfastly resist any policy designed to downgrade non-Hindi languages or treat non-Hindi speaking citizens as second-class participants within the national administrative apparatus.
