DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for issuing an ill-conceived and uncoordinated announcement regarding college semester arrears cancellations that triggered severe regulatory disputes and plunged thousands of higher education students into anxiety. Stalin pointed out that while he had formally recommended exploring scientific mechanisms to pass students who could not pay examination fees during pandemic hardships, the government announced an arbitrary blanket waiver without consulting national regulatory bodies like the All India Council for Technical Education.
Stalin highlighted that the AICTE's subsequent refusal to validate the state's unilateral declaration exposed the administration's utter lack of procedural foresight. Instead of formulating a legally sound academic evaluation policy in consultation with universities, the Chief Minister had treated a sensitive academic issue as a hasty public relations exercise. Stalin argued that this bureaucratic blunder jeopardized the future employment prospects and higher education qualifications of countless engineering and arts college graduates.
Demanding that the state government immediately resolve the regulatory deadlock with central accreditation bodies, Stalin insisted on protecting the academic validity of degrees. He affirmed that the DMK will stand beside affected college students until a legally secure resolution is achieved.
