DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned an incident at an Indian Overseas Bank branch in Jayankondam, Ariyalur district, where a bank official arrogantly denied service to a retired doctor on the pretext that the customer did not speak Hindi. Stalin asserted that denying lawful financial services in non-Hindi speaking states constitutes unacceptable linguistic discrimination and a flagrant violation of constitutional principles. He questioned whether nationalized banks operating in Tamil Nadu consider Hindi proficiency an arbitrary precondition for routine banking assistance.

Stalin warned that cultivating linguistic fanaticism within public sector banking institutions poses grave dangers to national integration. He reminded authorities that Tamil Nadu possesses a proud, unyielding history of defending linguistic dignity, cautioning that disrespecting Tamil citizens will ignite powerful sparks of popular democratic protest across the state. Stalin pointed out that public service personnel posted in regional areas have an administrative obligation to communicate in the local language of the people they serve.

Demanding immediate departmental inquiry and stern disciplinary action against the errant bank employee, Stalin called upon the Union Finance Ministry to guarantee linguistic equality in all federal institutions across Tamil Nadu.
