DMK president M.K. Stalin urged the Governor of Tamil Nadu to withhold assent to the Tamil Nadu Town and Country Planning Amendment Bill 2020 passed by the AIADMK legislative majority. Stalin pointed out that the controversial enactment permits authorities to formulate Detailed Project Reports and grant development clearances on private lands without the knowledge or explicit consent of actual landowners. He warned that this draconian legislation severely undermines fundamental property rights and facilitates bureaucratic dispossession of small landholders.

Stalin recalled that DMK legislators had vehemently resisted the bill on the floor of the Legislative Assembly, warning of potential collusion between real estate speculators and corrupt government administrators. By bypassing mandatory public notification and consent procedures, the law strips property owners of legal recourse while enabling backdoor commercial exploitation of valuable agricultural and suburban lands. Stalin emphasized that such arbitrary legislative maneuvers violate principles of natural justice and constitutional fairness.

Stalin appealed to the Governor to protect citizens' property rights by returning the unconstitutional bill to the state government. He affirmed that a future DMK administration will repeal authoritarian planning regulations and institute fair land development laws.
