Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin issued a strong condemnation following the desecration of social reformer Thanthai Periyar's statue in Tiruchirappalli. Describing Periyar as the ideological beacon of the Tamil people whose teachings dismantled caste hegemony, Stalin asserted that miscreants attempting to tarnish his memorial only dishonor themselves before civil society. He stated that cowardly vandalism cannot erase the profound socio-political transformations wrought by Periyar's rationalist philosophy and self-respect movement across Tamil Nadu.

Stalin criticized the state police administration and ruling AIADMK government for showing persistent laxity in safeguarding monuments dedicated to Dravidian icons. He pointed out that repeated instances of statue desecration by fringe reactionary elements highlighted a deliberate conspiracy to incite communal disharmony and disrupt public tranquility. Stalin demanded that law enforcement agencies act decisively, identify the perpetrators immediately, and prosecute them under stringent penal provisions without political leniency.

Reiterating the DMK's resolute ideological commitment, Stalin declared that the Dravidian movement will vigorously protect Periyar's legacy against reactionary assaults. He urged democratic and rationalist organizations statewide to remain vigilant and peaceful while defeating ideological extremism through constructive social action and public education.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
