DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for announcing a nominal increase in state paddy procurement prices, calling it a superficial attempt to distract public attention from the government's endorsement of contentious central farm enactments. The state administration had raised procurement prices by just seventy rupees per quintal for common variety paddy and fifty rupees per quintal for fine varieties. Stalin described these token increments as an insult to hardworking cultivators grappling with steep operational expenses.
Stalin demanded that the Tamil Nadu government raise the official procurement price to three thousand rupees per quintal to ensure genuine economic stability for farming families. He explained that skyrocketing costs of diesel, agricultural labor, organic fertilizers, and machinery rentals had rendered farming increasingly unremunerative under existing price ceilings. Stalin noted that while the Chief Minister routinely proclaimed himself a farmer, his administrative choices consistently failed to protect agrarian livelihoods. He stressed that fair agricultural pricing represents an urgent economic necessity, not a political concession, for thousands of struggling agricultural families.
Reiterating his party's dedication to agrarian welfare, Stalin insisted that the state cabinet revise paddy purchase rates immediately and provide robust financial safeguards for delta and non-delta cultivators.
