Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly objected to state school education authorities conducting an online quiz competition on Mahatma Gandhi exclusively in the Hindi language for Tamil Nadu government school students. Stalin expressed fierce condemnation of the AIADMK administration for enabling back-door linguistic imposition, asking whether Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami was desperately implementing central directives merely to protect his remaining tenure in power. He noted that imposing Hindi on Tamil-speaking children was an affront to the state's linguistic heritage.

Stalin reminded the state government of Tamil Nadu's historic anti-Hindi agitations, which fundamentally reshaped the nation's political landscape and established the unyielding two-language policy. He warned that if the state administration continued to quietly facilitate central efforts to impose Hindi through school curricula, cultural contests, and administrative circulars, it would ignite another massive statewide anti-Hindi agitation. Stalin emphasized that students must be allowed to learn and compete in their mother tongue with dignity and equal opportunity.

Stalin demanded the immediate cancellation of the Hindi-only quiz format. He warned the AIADMK government to cease collaborating with central cultural hegemony or face severe public backlash across Tamil Nadu.
