DMK president M.K. Stalin urged Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to take a proactive and courageous stand at the upcoming Goods and Services Tax Council meeting. Stalin insisted that the state administration must formally demand a vote under the GST Council rules regarding the full settlement of promised revenue compensation by the Union government. He pointed out that the central government had blatantly violated its statutory guarantees by refusing to release constitutionally mandated compensation payments to regional administrations.
Stalin urged the Chief Minister to proactively contact and collaborate with other state governments that were already resisting central pressure to take commercial market loans. He asserted that Tamil Nadu was entitled to thousands of crores in unpaid GST arrears, which were desperately needed to fund healthcare services, pandemic relief measures, and vital rural infrastructure. Stalin warned that submissively accepting central borrowing options would permanently saddle Tamil Nadu with unsustainable debt burdens while eroding state fiscal independence.
Stalin emphasized that safeguarding state financial rights required principled courage rather than silent acquiescence. He called upon the government to defend the economic interests of Tamil Nadu's people.
