DMK president M.K. Stalin formally inaugurated the massive Save Our Daughters torchlight procession organized by the DMK women's wing in Chennai, demanding justice for the nineteen-year-old Dalit woman who was brutally gang-raped and murdered in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Addressing the large gathering of women activists, student volunteers, and alliance representatives, Stalin stated that the flames carried by the demonstrators symbolized an unyielding fight to burn away injustice, authoritarian oppression, and systemic violence against women.
Stalin condemned the Uttar Pradesh state government for its callous mishandling of the crime, including the forcible midnight cremation of the victim's body without her family's presence or consent. He stressed that when governing regimes actively shield perpetrators and intimidate bereaved families, democratic society must rise in unified resistance. Stalin emphasized that the campaign was equally vital for Tamil Nadu, where women faced mounting insecurity and inadequate institutional protection under the current regime.
Stalin called upon civil society to build sustained social pressure to dismantle feudal patriarchy and safeguard women's safety. He affirmed that the DMK would remain at the forefront of struggles for gender justice.
