DMK president M.K. Stalin demanded that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami immediately convene a special session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to adopt a unanimous resolution opposing the Union government's three contentious agricultural enactments. Stalin pointed out that agriculture is explicitly listed under the State List in the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution, granting state legislatures exclusive jurisdiction to legislate upon agrarian commerce, marketing, and land tenures. He argued that the central laws violated constitutional federalism.
Stalin asserted that the new agrarian laws would dismantle regulated agricultural market committees, eradicate guaranteed minimum support prices, and leave small and marginal farmers at the mercy of corporate conglomerates. He urged the state administration to follow the democratic precedent set by other agrarian states by challenging the constitutional validity of the enactments before the Supreme Court. Stalin criticized the AIADMK leadership for acting as a subservient rubber stamp for central policies that destroy farmer livelihoods.
Stalin warned that the DMK would launch intense statewide mass demonstrations if the government failed to defend farmers' rights. He pledged to fight until the destructive central agricultural statutes were repealed.
