Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the Archaeological Survey of India for completely omitting classical Tamil from the admission eligibility notification for its two-year postgraduate diploma course at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute of Archaeology. Stalin expressed profound outrage that while languages such as Sanskrit, Pali, Prakrit, and Arabic were designated as qualifying subjects, Tamil was deliberately excluded despite its recognized classical status and rich epigraphical antiquity. He characterized the notification as blatant discrimination against Tamil scholars.

Stalin accused central administrative authorities of systematically demonstrating a regressive bias against the linguistic heritage of Tamil Nadu. He pointed out that over half of all ancient inscriptions discovered across the Indian subcontinent are in Tamil, making the omission of the language from archaeological training academically indefensible and politically malicious. Stalin also criticized the ruling AIADMK government for remaining silent instead of forcefully defending Tamil interests before central ministries.

Stalin called upon political parties, linguistic scholars, and civil society groups to unite in fierce collective resistance against central marginalization. He demanded the immediate revision of the admission prospectus to restore Tamil to its rightful status.
