DMK president M.K. Stalin commended the chief ministers of several non-BJP ruled states for boldly opposing the Union government's unlawful attempt to evade statutory Goods and Services Tax compensation payments. Stalin criticized the central administration for reneging on constitutional guarantees and pressuring states to take market loans to bridge revenue deficits caused by structural GST implementation flaws. He praised opposing state leaders for demonstrating political courage and defending federal fiscal rights against central coercion.
In sharp contrast, Stalin condemned the AIADMK administration in Tamil Nadu for maintaining passive silence and capitulating to central directives, betraying the state's vital economic interests. He pointed out that Tamil Nadu was owed thousands of crores in unpaid GST dues, starving municipal welfare schemes, healthcare spending, and rural development programs of essential operational funds. Stalin asserted that forcing states into debt markets to cover central shortfalls destroys the constitutional framework of cooperative federalism.
Stalin declared that the unified resistance mounted by non-BJP states would not be in vain. He urged regional parties to maintain solidarity to compel the Union government to honor its legal compensation obligations.
