DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized the AIADMK administration for failing to purchase harvested paddy from farmers, leaving agrarian producers in deep financial agony across Tamil Nadu. Stalin pointed out that while the prevailing minimum support price was already inadequate given escalating input costs for seeds, fertilizers, and diesel, government procurement agencies were not even procuring harvested grain in full. Consequently, vast quantities of paddy lay exposed to unseasonal rain outside overwhelmed procurement yards, forcing farmers into distress sales to private traders.
Stalin demanded that Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami take immediate executive steps to substantially multiply direct paddy procurement centers across all delta and farming districts. He urged the government to eliminate procurement caps, provide covered storage facilities, and guarantee that every grain brought by farmers was bought without arbitrary delays or corrupt commission demands. Stalin also pressed the administration to revise and enhance the minimum support price to ensure fair compensation.
Stalin stressed that farming communities could not endure administrative apathy during peak harvest seasons. He called for urgent state intervention to expand procurement infrastructure, eliminate systemic bottlenecks, and safeguard agrarian livelihoods across the state.
