Editorial context

DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam for deliberately prolonging the judicial inquiry into the death of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. Stalin pointed out that an inquiry originally slated for completion within three months had stretched across thirty-seven months without delivering tangible findings. He cited observations from Justice A. Arumughaswamy, who noted that government standing counsel merely watched proceedings passively rather than facilitating rapid fact-finding.

Stalin charged the ruling AIADMK leadership with colluding to delay testimony and suppress vital evidence surrounding Jayalalithaa's hospitalization and treatment. He recalled that Panneerselvam had initially raised public doubts regarding the circumstances of her demise, yet repeatedly avoided appearing before the commission to testify under oath. Stalin argued that the prolonged inaction proved the state administration had no genuine interest in uncovering the truth for the Tamil public.

Stalin affirmed that the public deserved complete transparency regarding the former leader's treatment. He pledged that a future DMK government would ensure the inquiry concluded impartially, establish full truth, and prosecute responsible individuals under the law without compromise.
