DMK president M.K. Stalin expressed serious concern over skyrocketing retail onion prices reaching 130 rupees per kilogram across Tamil Nadu, placing immense economic strain on working-class households and homemakers. Stalin pointed out that while consumers faced crippling price inflation on essential vegetables, paddy farmers were simultaneously weeping as harvested grain sacks lay rotting in unshielded state procurement yards. He condemned the AIADMK administration for celebrating superficial political titles while remaining completely indifferent to agrarian distress and public kitchen inflation.
Stalin warned that the newly enacted Union agricultural laws would further intensify market speculation, artificial scarcity, and corporate hoarding, driving essential food prices beyond ordinary citizens' reach. He demanded that the Tamil Nadu government immediately curb hoarders, eliminate middlemen, and procure onions directly from producing states for subsidized distribution through fair price shops and cooperative outlets. Stalin insisted that state authorities must not allow corrupt cartels to profit from consumer misery during an ongoing pandemic.
Stalin affirmed that the DMK will continue to fight for price stability, agricultural insurance, and transparent procurement systems to safeguard both cultivators and everyday consumers across Tamil Nadu.
