DMK president M.K. Stalin criticized Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami for portraying the prospective provision of free COVID-19 vaccines as a personal political concession rather than an inherent constitutional duty of a welfare government. Stalin affirmed that providing free, universal healthcare and disease immunization to all citizens during an unprecedented pandemic is a fundamental obligation of any democratic administration, not an act of electoral generosity. He noted that projecting basic public health protection as a special favor revealed a deeply flawed understanding of governance responsibilities.
Stalin highlighted the hypocrisy of the AIADMK administration, pointing out that while the Chief Minister attempted to pose as a benevolent benefactor regarding future vaccines, his government had adamantly refused the DMK's persistent demand to disburse five thousand rupees in direct cash relief to impoverished families struggling through months of economic lockdown. Stalin stressed that vulnerable daily wage workers, street vendors, and unorganized laborers had received virtually no adequate financial buffer from the state during their most desperate moments.
Stalin demanded that the Tamil Nadu government ensure equitable vaccine procurement planning while immediately providing substantive direct financial assistance to distressed households statewide.
